Aside from delivering the core Curriculum, AISPP believes that children should also be introduced to other essential 21st Century skills. Otherwise known as the ‘Skills for Today,’ why are these so important to living and learning in the modern world?
Preparing children for life on the outside
The world has changed – the way we work, how we communicate, where we live and even the country (or countries) we regard as home. Schools, therefore, need to adopt more flexible, inclusive and creative learning approaches to better prepare children for the challenges and opportunities presented by the 21st Century.
Effective communication, willing collaboration, creativity and critical thinking are essential skills for the here and now
Whilst not units or even subjects in their own right, AISPP believes that creativity, critical thinking, effective communication and willing collaboration, are hugely important themes that should be overlaid across all aspects of Curriculum mapping and strategic planning. These 21st Century skills are part of the AISPP learning framework and present in each lesson, just as much as literacy and numeracy are.
Giving kids the best possible chance of success from an early age
But why is AISPP so passionate about educating children in these 4 skills areas? If children are to gain entry to their first choice university, access their preferred profession, or to be successful in a corporate or professional environment of any sort, they need to know how to think, compete and to communicate with those around them. Qualifications are still important, but not always enough.
Empowering the next generation
At AISPP it’s all about the deeper learning experience – yes, the Curriculum delivers academic excellence and inspires achievement, but it gives students much more. It equips them with the global mindset, approach and self-belief that comes with learning how to compete, how to perform and how to achieve.
A society suffering from information overload!
With so much information readily available to our youngsters these days via the internet, on social networking sites etc, the 21st Century skills taught by AISPP help young people to make sense of it all by encouraging them to make best use of it, in smarter ways, in an environment in which they flourish!
AISPP, an Australian Co-ed IB International K-12 school (Phnom Penh), is fast becoming one of the Kingdom of Cambodia’s leading education providers. Providing a modern Australian private and independent education, its 21st Century philosophy, state-of-the-art facilities and world-class teaching standards, make it ideally placed to prepare children for the global challenges and opportunities that lie ahead of them.
