When you’re looking for a new school for your child, it’s important that you do your research. But what sort of research should you be doing? Is a quick look on the school website enough? Do you need to book a tour? Are you fully familiar with the Curriculum on offer? All of this is important, but don’t forget to have a quick read of those all-important testimonials!
Parents will give you an honest opinion of what they think
With the advent of social media and other online platforms, it’s very quick and easy to access peoples’ opinions on absolutely anything!
When you start to shortlist schools, particularly if that might involve a move overseas, it’s important that you get a good appreciation from existing learners and their families about what to expect.
The fact is, parents value and trust the opinions of other parents because they are very much ‘in the same boat’ and understand things each other’s perspective.
A parent will say it ‘as it is’ because they want other parents to share their experiences
From how good school lunches are, to school policy on things like safety, inclusivity, and the extent of the co-curricular programme, it all matters and helps new parents to feel positive and enthusiastic about an environment that they are seriously considering.
Children have opinions too – and lots of them…
Don’t forget that you might be able to read testimonials from children on a school’s website too. These, however short, are always exceptionally honest!
If you are browsing and can’t find any testimonials or a social networking site to connect with, you must ask the school – most will be only too pleased to share their parents’ views with you.
At the end of the day, you wouldn’t stay at a hotel you hadn’t used before until you had visited Trip Advisor! In the same way, it’s useful to find out what existing parents think, before you fill out an application form for your child’s new school.
