The Australian International School Phnom Penh launches innovative programmes in partnership with world leading universities.

The seriousness of the most recent Covid outbreak to our community has been difficult for many people to handle – it has, without a doubt, added stress to our lives. However, there is hope and positivity here too – the vaccine is being given out with promises of more to come. That is where our focus needs to remain.

Due to the 20th February Community Transmision incident of Covid-19’s current lack of improvement, and to avoid the further spread of the more severe COVID-19 strain to the schools and community, as well as with the valuable advice from Samdach Akeak Moha Sena Padei Decho Hun Sen, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports has decided to extend the period of temporary suspension of public and private educational institutions in Phnom Penh, Kandal Province and Preah Sihanouk City, Steung Hav City of Preah Sihanouk Province, until the end of the 20th February’s Event. All  institutions shall continue to deliver classes via online mode.

As mentioned above, the Department of Education, Youth and Sports of Phnom Penh, Kandal province, and Preah Sihanouk province shall disseminate this announcement to all district administrative offices of Education, Youth and Sports, management of all levels of educational institutions, educational staff, parents and guardians. The Ministry is requesting the relevant stakeholders for cooperation on the matter.

Due to the 20th February Community Transmision appear to be bigger and more complicated than the 28th November, and to avoid the more severe spread of COVID-19 to the schools and community, as well as with the valuable advice from Samdach Akeak Moha Sena Padei Decho Hun Sen, the Prime Minister of Cambodia, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports decides to temporarily close all public and private educational institutions in Phnom Penh and Kandal Province for 02 weeks from the date of this announcement. All classes shall be delivered via online mode.

As you are all aware, there is now the third incidence of Covid-19 transmission locally. Please inform the school should you or your family members have been in contact with anyone who has tested positive for Covid-19 in relation to this 20th February community event. Also, according to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports MoU with us here at AISPP, you must keep your children at home.

As most of you are probably aware, there has been a locally identified outbreak of over 30 people with covid-19 in Phnom Penh.

To avoid the spread of COVID-19 to the schools and community resulting from the 20th February Community Transmission, the Ministry of Education, Youth & Sports (MoEYS) requests to all public and private educational institutions to strictly adhere to the Health & Safety measures and the “3 Preventions and 3 DON’Ts” from the date of this announcement.

We are sure that everyone had a marvelous Chinese New Year weekend, as the children came to school excited for it to begin, and happy after so much good food and family time when they returned to school on Monday! We are very hopeful that next year we can have our students performing and celebrating as we have done in the past. We miss these community opportunities.

It has been so great to have all our students back on campus this January, and I’m sure the teachers missed having our students on campus as much as the students missed being here.

We are so lucky to have all of our staff and students covid free. We know that Phnom Penh is on high alert, and we are thankful to the government for being conservative and safe in their dealing with this potential disease coming full force into Cambodia.
