Primary Years (Foundation - Year 5)
Our Primary Years learners participate in an inquiry based learning programme which combines the Australian Curriculum standards with the teaching and learning approaches of the IB Primary Years Programme. In addition to class time, Primary Years learners benefit from specialist classes in:
- Language & Culture
- Music
- Visual Arts
- PE & Swimming
Student-Centred Learning
Learning in the curriculum is underpinned by six trans-disciplinary themes, each selected for their relevance to the real world. Students explore the commonalities of human experience and investigate these themes throughout a yearlong Program of Inquiry (POI).
Who We Are
Inquiry into the nature of the self; beliefs and values; personal, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; and human relationships.
Where We Are In Place And Time
Inquiry into our orientation in place and time; personal histories; the discoveries and explorations of humankind; and the interconnectedness of individuals and civilisations.
How We Express Ourselves
Inquiry into the ways in which we discover and express ideas, feelings, nature, culture, beliefs and values.
How The World Works
Inquiry into the natural world and its laws, the interaction between the natural world and human societies; the impact of scientific and technological advances on society and on the environment.
How We Organize Ourselves
Inquiry into the interconnectedness of human-made systems and communities; the structure and function of organizations; and their impact on humankind and the environment.
Sharing The Planet
Inquiry into rights and responsibilities in the struggle to share finite resources with other people and other living things; access to equal opportunities; and peace and conflict resolution.

Specialist Program In The Primary Years
This is achieved through a balanced curriculum that allows them to explore the disciplines of Art, Music, PE, Swimming, and Languages and Culture.

Languages & Culture
Students are given the choice between Khmer or Chinese Language and Culture. They spend 30 minutes a day learning how to read, write and speak their chosen language, and an appreciation of the traditions and culture is also developed throughout these sessions.

Music
Students spend two, 40 minute sessions each week listening and responding to music whilst also creating their own original pieces. An appreciation of music from all over the world is developed and students are exposed to a variety of different instruments.

Physical Education
For 40 minutes, twice a week, students are exposed to a range of different sports, exercises and games. This allows them to develop fine and gross motor skills, an understanding of the importance of physical activity, and the ability to work effectively as both an individual and as part of a team.

Swimming
Through the use of our state of the art swimming facilities, students spend one, 80 minute session each week developing an understanding of water safety and practicing a variety of swimming skills.

Art
During one, 80 minute session each week, students use a variety of materials to explore the elements of Art and express their creativity through the creation of their own art pieces.
