As of 10 February, no new countries have reported cases. Over 40,000 cases have been reported but only 309 of these cases are outside of China.

We are also reviewing the number of new cases reported each day. Whether the infection rate is slowing remains uncertain.

Each day the common-day flu claims more victims than the coronavirus. So why the concern? Scientists are unsure of the pathological potential of this virus. There is no immunisation and there is no experience with it. Therefore, the concern is the unknown potential and the rapid spread in China.

News reports state that a WHO team is being allowed into China to observe and support local authorities.
