What are the requirements to become a Graphic Designer?
While there are associate degree programs available, entry-level jobs in advertising typically require a bachelor’s degree. A graphic design degree program entails both the arts and sciences, combining courses in visual design and copywriting with those in communication, psychology and marketing. Candidates for graphic design positions should have a portfolio that demonstrates their creativity and originality.
The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) is globally recognized as the leader in Art and Design Education. SCAD offers degree courses in Graphic Design.
Online or Full-Time Graphic Design Degree?
This is an important question!
Most degrees have a high percentage of academic learning with a low practical work. Arts related degrees such as advertising, graphic design, fine arts, photography, and sequential art (to mention a few), have a higher degree of practical work than academic learning.
SCAD offers both campus driven and online learning for a number of their degrees. One of the difficulties with online degrees involving a high level of practical work such as the arts, is finding recognised qualified experts in your area who will coach and mentor you to achieve that high level of skill and competence that the industry expects. SCAD has a student support programme of lecturers and experts who provide this type of support for students as and when required.
