We are the only international school in Phnom Penh that provides a learning framework based on the Australian National Curriculum intertwined with the International Baccalaureate (IB). So why is this such a popular combination, and what is it about the Australian National Curriculum that attracts parents?
A Learning Framework That Delivers
The Australian Curriculum is designed to teach students what it takes to be confident and creative individuals and to become active and informed citizens. It sets out the goal for what all students should learn as they progress through their school life – whether they live in Australia itself, or are studying somewhere else in the world.
8 Learning Areas, 7 General Capacities And 3 Cross Curriculum Priorities
From the moment a child starts school, right through to year 10 they are introduced to 8 distinct learning/subject areas. These include English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Physical Education (HPE), Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS), The Arts, Technologies and Languages.
The Curriculum also embraces the need for students to be educated and taught different skills, leading to abilities that help prepare them for the 21st Century. These capacities include Numeracy, Literacy, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), critical and creative thinking, ethical and intercultural understanding and personal and social capability.
Looking To The Future And Preserving Broad Australian Values
Cross curriculum priorities are also taught. These are designed to help prepare young people to take a part in the future of Australia and all that it represents. Priorities include: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Histories and Culture, Asia and Australia’s Engagement with Asia and general sustainability.
