Many Students Feel Unhappy And Apprehensive When They Move To A Different Country Or School
Students that attend an international school must feel that they belong.
Very often they may have moved away from their family and established relationships causing a degree of personal stress and anxiety.
Transitioning between schools can be traumatic for anyone at any time, but particularly if children are also exposed to other factors with regard to living in a new place (or country), a different climate, and learning alongside other children that they can barely communicate with. Academic pressure can also have a bearing on student wellbeing as the feeling of pressure mounts.
AISPP recognizes these issues, and from day 1 works hard with parents, school staff and students to ensure that each transition and/or move is carefully planned and monitored, ensuring everyone involved feels at ease and happy within their new learning space and environment within a short period of time.
Great Relationships Are Very Important
Whilst a child’s environment, surroundings, class size and things like facilities do have a bearing on whether they feel content, calm and happy, great relationships count too (staff to student, student to staff, staff to staff, staff to parents etc). This is an important factor in establishing resilience, mental health and wellbeing amongst an international student community.
At AISPP the importance of positivity, respect and good attitude are introduced as part of the induction programme so that children understand what is expected of them in terms of relationships with their friends and teachers.
